It was a surreal feeling walking into Queens Hall at Parliament House. I had been invited to attend the Victorian Community History Awards, as my Burwood Tennis Club History Book had been nominated as a finalist.

When I began the project approximately two years earlier, it was almost on a whim. With our centenary fast approaching I felt someone should recognise this wonderful achievement. Shortly afterwards, in what I describe as a moment of madness I decided to write the book

With this background you can imagine my thrill when I walked through the door, and the first thing I noticed was a glass display cabinet and my book sitting on the third shelf.

As if that wasn’t enough, I was amazed and absolutely delighted to finish fourth in my category, behind 3 very distinguished writers. It is a magnificent honour that I will never forget.

Also, had it not been for Greg Lammers interest and initial research which uncovered our birth in February 1907, I may never have written this book. Thank you Greg for all your assistance during the writing of this book.
