The Toptenn Team is very excited to play a more active role in the Administration of Burwood Tennis Club following our appointment at the recent AGM. We will be working closely with Fran, who returns as President and the general Committee. As hard as we have tried to attract volunteer help it is a sign of the times that today\'s fast paced world is restrictive for members willing and able to give up valuable time to fill Committee roles.

I would personally like to thank current and ongoing committee members but particularly Colin Edwards Fran Coggins and Greg Lammers who have made an enormous contribution in all aspects of club life, especially in planning and delivering on a fantastic clubhouse and more recently the wonderful new synthetic courts. Ron Simpson continues to make an unbelievable contribution in maintaining the Club and is delighted to start passing the mantle to Peter Henrys and Harry Oriander. Peter has identified many areas of concern and we thank Peter and Harry in advance for their services.

Toptenn has been the contracted coaching providers at Burwood Tennis Club for 21 years and have seen many changes to the BTC over this period. We have made so many friendships and seen so many players show casing their skills and enjoying their time at BTC. Personally I was delighted last year to receive the James Shrimpton Award for club service. I have three children playing competition at the Club currently and want them together with all members to enjoy a dynamic environment.  Toptenn is also very proud that many of our students have gone onto being Club Champions, Committee members, and competent coaches. We believe we understand the culture of the Club, and as Club Coach we feel the pulse of the Club and can operate as a perfect conduit between students and membership. I believe BTC and Toptenn have been able to strike a very good relationship and balance to provide positive experiences for a very broad range of player and member requirements.

Toptenn is committed in providing new opportunities, greater service to our current members and to try to attact new members.
As Club Administrator we will be responsible on many levels. These include:

Club Secretary - We have set up an office at the Club and plan to increase our presence significantly on site to help members and prospective members. We want people in the community to be greeted by a person and not a locked gate. We will work with Ian Grayson to mange membership through the new Tennis Victoria \"My Tennis\" software.  BTC does carry significant debt as a result of the new courts you now enjoy so paying your membership on-time is critical in helping us manage the debt. Our membership fee is still very reasonable and competitive particularly considering our clubrooms and fantastic new courts. Our annual membership works out at about 50 cents a day for adults, or if you play once a week for 26 weeks (half year) it costs about $7 per session, $3.50 over 12 months.  Casual court hire at Commercial Tennis Centres start at about $25 per hour.  Liaison officers with Tennis Victoria and Tennis Australia - Many members ask why we have to pay Tennis Victoria membership or affiliation. We can give you further information on this however without this membership there would be no infra-structure in Victoria to run not for profit clubs and competitions. Facilities such as Burwood TC would have to pay commercial rates to Council effectively tripling membership costs. With this affiliation we have support and access to many programs and initiatives. These include our Mum\'s and Toddler program, Tennis in schools program (this is how we bring kids to the Club), Seniors, Young Ambassador, Disability programs to name a few.  Affiliation provides the club low cost insurance, public liability and personal accident insurance for all members.

Junior Convenor - Natalie will continue to do a wonderful job in managing the Juniors. \' Natattack \' has done an amazing job over a long period and welcomes any parents who might like to be more involved. We would love to run a BBQ on match day at the end of each month.

Club Captain - We will be managing all of our senior teams including Tennis Victoria pennant and Association teams such as Waverley Tennis. This will include managing Club Championships. We also hope to introduce a Junior and Senior challenge ladder by the end of the year. If anyone is interested in a 2 player (unisex) team competition (one singles /one doubles) on a Wednesday night please let me know. There are 2 divisions for entry level and more advanced players. It is a pretty cool competition run by Xpoint software. Check it out at www.xpointsports.com.au

Social Convenor - Toptenn will drive social events such as \' Twistie\'s \' (Tristan Harper) world famous Trivia Night, (details inside), as well as Junior and Senior Presentation Nights. We welcome any and all suggestions from our members for other social events they would like to be a part of. If you have any good fund raising ideas please let us know. Soon our website will show court usage and availability so members can maximise their involvement by knowing when you can access the courts.

General Manager - We will be active in managing court and clubhouse hire to bring additional revenue streams to support the Club financially. I am attending a Small Grants writing seminar with Boroondara Council with the intention of applying for grants for projects such as a shade cloth over the decking. Toptenn will be putting lights on Court 3 in the next 12 months. We have already done the electric cabling when the new courts went down.

Additional services - Toptenn is offering a Pro Shop service from the bar and office area. Financial members receive a genuine 10% discount on all racquets and a special on-site restring service. You can try our demo racquets out on court and Tristan is one of our best and most knowledgeable restringers in Melbourne. He will customise your racquet. We have also invested in a professional coffee machine that makes delicious cappuccinos, lattes, etc.

We will be putting out a survey soon to all members to see how they would like to improve our great Club.

Again Toptenn and it\'s very committed staff are excited to help lead BTC into the next 100years. Although there is a levy on the fees to help give some remuneration for those taking on these important responsibilities we welcome involvement in any form
to keep our 100 year old and very proud Club alive and kicking.

Your faithfully,
Peter Owen, Toptenn
